Art City Mission - Why? Art-City.org is committed to raising awareness of the underground art communities in cities across the country. When I was a young boy my grandmother took me to downtown Chicago from Oak Park on the Lake Street 'L'. Our plan was to go see the 'Picasso', the 'Four Seasons' mosaic and on to the Art Institute. These were fascinating works of art even to a young boy. As the 'L' train hurtled through the west side I stared out the window in amazement of the Graffiti that plastered the walls of the buildings up and down Lake Street. I realized then that not all art resides in huge venerable museums or is on public display at some busy intersection. Art is everywhere. Artists can be anyone. Now every town I visit, I seek the art in that town. I want to view famous public art and try to find controversial street art. I want to find out where the off beat museums and the gallery districts are located. Even in small cities and towns there are very vibrant art communities. What I found is there are often very good sources of information for each individual art entity but no single reliable source of 'insider' knowledge of the art scene in cities everywhere. In short - Our mission is to connect art with those seeking it. |
